There were some special guests at the January 22nd Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Eastside Fire & Rescue firefighters attended the luncheon to honor three members of the Snoqualmie Casino Security Department who helped save the life of a 39-year old man last month.
EF&R Battalion Chief Dave Augenstein, who presented the special awards, explained that firefighters were called to the casino on December 1st after a patron suffered an apparent heart attack.
Augenstein said prior to crews arriving, Snoqualmie Casino Security Team Lead Brett Brideau and Security Officers Jordan Prior and Bryant Ellis performed both CPR and shocked the man twice using an AED.
He said they were instrumental in saving the man’s life – and that when crews arrived he had regained a faint pulse. He was transported to the hospital and released four days later, returning to the casino to gather things left behind and to thank the employees.
According to Augenstein, in King County 50% of people who suffer heart attacks later walk out of hospitals. He said on the surface that may not appear to be a great survival rate, but in other areas of the country the survival rate is only 10%. He credited the statistic to King County residents’ CPR knowledge and the availability of portable AEDs throughout the county.
