On Sunday, February 24, 2013,  two snowmobilers became stranded between Blowout Mountain and Twin Camps.  On their way back to their truck, weather conditions deteriorated due to heavy snow. The couple then decided stay put and build a snow shelter.

They stayed overnight and by morning the 44-year old man was able to walk out far enough to find a cell signal, call for help provide his GPS coordinates.

The King County Sheriff’s Office was contacted yesterday, February 25th, at  9:50 AM and about 40 volunteer crews began working their way to the two stranded people.  The weather was extremely poor, which made it difficult and time-consuming for rescue crews.

One rescue team had to turn back  due to the conditions and  a volunteer falling after the ground gave way as they were walking along a ridge. The volunteer was uninjured.

Around 11:30PM February 25th, search and rescue teams reached the stranded couple, who were uninjured.  They were warmed up and taken off the mountain overnight.

As of 5:30AM, February 26th, King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Charlie Akers, said rescues were about 2 hours from base camp with the couple, whom were said to be doing well.
