School Resource ‘Officer Kim’ Back on Regular Duty, Returns to District Next Year

In the fall of 2014, in a partnership between the Snoqualmie Police Department and the Snoqualmie Valley School District, 19-year SPD veteran Officer Kim Stonebraker was named School Resource Officer (SRO). She was based out of Mount Si High School ,but also maintained a presence at other district schools.

Recently it was announced that Officer Stonebraker had to return to regular duty due to staffing issues within the department. According to SPD Chief Steve McCulley, in late fall of 2015 department staffing shortages prompted a move that returned the familiar face of “Officer Kim” to regular police duty.

McCulley explained that she was placed on day shift so to still provide SRO services to the high school as much as needed and possible. Officer Stonebraker will return to her normal, full-time SRO duties at the start of the 2016-17 school year.

SVSD Public Information Coordinator Carolyn Malcolm said, “Unfortunately, SRO Stonebreaker had to be reassigned back to regular duty in order to address needs with the Police Department.  We look forward to having her back on campus as her presence and support has had a positive impact on our schools and our students.”

Officer Stonebraker’s SRO Duties include:

  • Preparing and conducting public awareness programs and class presentations
  • Patrolling an assigned area for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations
  • Ensuring buildings are secure
  • Intervening in private or public disputes to protect the public and maintain order
  • Performing initial and follow-up investigations of crimes involving adults and juveniles
  • Multiple other public safety duties including maintain positive working relationships with the King County Juvenile Court, Child Protective Services, Department of Health Services and other agencies related to youth.
