River Embankment Repairs to Close Part of Snoqualmie Valley Trail all Summer

According to the King County Flood Control District, Snoqualmie River erosion is taking a toll and vital repairs are needed to a fix a damaged structure that protects SR 203, a fiber optic line and a the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. Repair work is expected to begin in early June.

Work to rebuild the Sinnema Quaale Upper Revetment between Carnation and Duvall requires closing a stretch of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail from approximately 1-½ miles south of Northeast 124th Street to 2 miles north of the Stillwater Natural Area.

The revetment absorbs and deflects the Snoqualmie River’s erosive energy, and has been repeatedly damaged by flooding since 2006.  King County says any further damage to it could threaten State Route 203.

The Snoqualmie Valley Trail will be closed  from June 1st to Oct. 31st. NO trail detour is available so users are encouraged to use other portions of the county’s regional trail system.

Rebuilding the revetment includes reconstructing about 750 feet of river bank and rebuilding about 1,100 feet of the adjacent trail. The $6.3 million project is being funded primarily by the King County Flood Control District, with King County Parks paying to rebuild the trail.
