Rescuing Fido: Dedicated Volunteers respond to Rescue Pooch stuck on a Ledge after Hiking Fall

Living in the Snoqualmie Valley, where urbanites love to come to hike, climb and float, you see first hand the important work of Search and Rescue volunteers.

This past Saturday, June 4, 2016, those volunteers took their dedication to new levels when team members from Washington State Animal Response Team, Explorer Search and Rescue and both Seattle and Tacoma Mountain Rescue responded to help an injured dog in the Denny Creek Trail area.

Teams made a slow three hours climb up a creek bed to a ledge area, including some pretty tricky terrain near the end of the trek, where a dog had wandered off during a hike and then fell about 100 feet.

KCSAR Public Information Volunteer Alan LaBissoniere said after the fall the dog, it was stuck in a ledge area and its owner could not get out to the animal on his own.

Mountain Rescue teams used rigging to hoist the injured pooch off the cliff.  The dog suffered an eye and leg injury according to LaBissonere, but was able to carefully make its way back down the trail with its owner.
