Remains Located on Remote Area of Mount Si

Numerous Snoqualmie Valley residents noticed the helicopter hovering and circling over Mount Si Wednesday, June 17, 2015 and today, June 19th, King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Detective Jason Houck said the helicopter was responding to a mission for remains discovered on a remote area of the mountain this week.

According to Det. Houch, an off-trail hiker discovered what he thought might be human remains and notified police.

A KCSO Guardian helicopter was used to hoist KCSO personnel down into the remote area to collect/recover the remains and transport them to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Houch did said they “definitely” know the remains are not those of 29-year-old Kurt Ruppert of Florida who went missing while skydiving above Mount Si in early January 2013.  Houch said the remains located this week have been there “way longer” than when Ruppert went missing two and a half years ago.

Houch stated the medical examiner’s office is expected to examine the remains on Monday and determine for sure that they are human. The results should be released  on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
