Ready for Return of Winter? Freezing Temps, Cold North Wind, Snow Even Possible

Sure we had some really cold days in December – and even a two hour brush with snow – but this winter has generally been a tame one.

There hasn’t been a really big wind storm, or snow storm or major flooding event.  In recent weeks we’ve even had sunny, spring-like days, reaching nearly 60 degrees. But that’s about to change – at least for the next few days.

Freezing Temps, Cold Northeasterly Wind Set to Invade Western Washington

The National Weather Service is forecasting a fairly decent cooling trend that begins today, February 3, 2014 and hangs around through Friday, February 7th.

Some cold air originating from the Yukon will begin seeping into our area this afternoon and knock down our normal temperatures for this time of year by 15 – 20 degrees.  Some decent northeasterly winds are also predicted, which will make it feel even colder.  In a nutshell, it’ll be sunny, cold and dry.

The coldest weather is expected for Wednesday and Thursday, with high temperatures only expected to be around freezing and the nights even colder, dipping down into the 20’s and even the teens for some outlying areas.

There’s a chance for some snow later on Saturday and into Sunday, but the weather guys say it’s one of those events that starts as snow and changes to rain as warmer air overruns and sours out the dry, cold air mass.

It’s still a few days away so things could change, but just be aware that the “S” word has indeed crept its way back into the weather forecast.

In the meantime, if you’re heading to the Seahawks parade on Wednesday, which starts at 11AM, bring some sunglasses and dress warm!
