Rain, Wind and a Possible Thunderstorm to End a Long Dry Spell in the Snoqualmie Valley

[Guest Post by North Bend resident Mark Davis]

Rain, Rain, Rain. Who wants some rain with a side of wind and possible thunderstorms? I’m going to break this post up into three different parts. Rain first.

The rain we’re going to get in the next three days, “Friday to Sunday,” will amount to more than we have gotten in the last 2 ½ months combined.

After all is said and done, we could get up to 3” of rain.  Make sure your gutters are clean. The heaviest rainfall will happen Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

Now the wind. Parts of the North and the coast currently have Wind Advisories in place. We currently don’t meet the criteria for an advisory, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be windy and can’t cause problems.

This time of the year, the trees are still full of leaves, and it won’t take much for branches and limbs to come down to cause issues. Currently, we could get gusts between 30mph and 35mph.

That doesn’t seem like a lot, but for a wind event this early, it could cause some power outages, so be prepared. The chart below shows possible gusts, not sustained winds.

Onto the thunderstorms chances, forecasting thunderstorms around here is like trying to predict snowfall. Anything farther out than 6 hours is very difficult.

We do know this weather system will cause some instablity that could cause some thunderstorms. Predicting where those storms will hit is very difficult.

The chart below shows a possible thunderstorm Saturday afternoon. Things can change with these storms; they have a mind of their own. Just be aware Saturday, we could have pop-up thunderstorms.

Stay safe and make sure those gutters are clean.
