Prepare for more Traffic headaches, delays over Snoqualmie Pass, through North Bend

WSDOT says the traffic headaches many drivers experienced last weekend between North Bend and Ellensburg – and over Snoqualmie Pass – will continue into this long July 4th holiday weekend.

Last Friday afternoon, eastbound I-90 traffic backups stretched all the way to the SR 18 interchange, made worse by a multiple car collision. Big events in eastern Washington were a contributing factor. By Sunday afternoon things were even worse, with drivers stuck for hours between Ellensburg and North Bend, along with side streets and SR 202 clogged through downtown North Bend as drivers looked for alternate routes.

WSDOT is warning even though the 4th of July is on a Tuesday this year, lots of travelers will be hitting the roads and making it a long, four-day weekend. They say it’s vital that I-90 drivers plan extra time to reach their destinations.

Both directions of I-90 have lane reductions in place for several projects that are happening between North Bend and Ellensburg. Plan ahead for heavy eastbound traffic and delays beginning early Friday morning, June 30th, as drivers head out for the long weekend. When heading back, also expect to see major delays on westbound I-90 most of the day into the late evening.

Although, crews won’t work on I-90 over the weekend, lanes remain closed due to sections of pavement that have been removed as part of the ongoing construction projects. WSDOT advises having snacks and water packed in your car in case you get stuck in the backup.

Happy traveling – don’t forget to pack your patience!
