Popular Carnation Farmers Market Kicks off 10th Season on May 7th

Tuesday, May 7th, the Carnation Farmers Market officially kicks off its 10th season – and with predicted sunny skies.  The opening bell rings at 3PM, signaling the start of the first market of the year.  On opening day, Valley of the Moon Fiddlers will also entertain shoppers with music.

Valley residents are encouraged to bring shopping bags to fill with fresh produce, grass-fed meat and wild-caught salmon, mushrooms, flowers, raw honey, wines, local cheese and butter, eggs, wood-fired breads and fine pastries from a variety of family farms and small producers.

If you haven’t made it to the Carnation Farmers Market before, this is the perfect year to discover local flavors and events, with over 25 Washington-state farmers and food artisans from the Snoqualmie Valley and beyond.

The market is adding six new vendors this year: cuts of grass-fed beef, lamb and pork; ice cream using local milk and fruits (and a non-dairy option each week); organic berries (coming in June!); locally made pasta in a variety of unique flavors; a new family farm with seasonal produce grown right in Carnation; and soups, seasoning and dip mixes using Pacific Northwest ingredients.

The Carnation Farmers Market is open Tuesdays from 3-7PM starting May 7, 2013 and continuing through Thanksgiving.Located in the heart of downtown Carnation on the corner of Bird Street and Stossel Avenue, just one block east of Highway 203/Tolt Avenue.

Music on the grass, chalk art and a children’s activity booth are weekly features.  Cooking demonstrations (complete with sampling) will be advertised throughout the season as local chefs and food preservers join us to share their knowledge.  The Tolt Commons Community Shelter provides a space for shopping – rain or shine.

As a program of SnoValley Tilth (SVT), the market embodies SVT’s vision of “more farmers growing more food on more land for our community.” The Carnation Farmers Market is one of several ways SnoValley Tilth supports and promotes sustainable and organic farming in the Snoqualmie and Snohomish Valleys.

A complete schedule of music and events can be found on the Carnation Farmers Market website , Facebook and Twitter.
