Police close westbound I-90 east of North Bend Saturday morning to stop wrong-way driver

A wrong way driver on westbound I-90 gave some drivers a big scare Saturday morning, October 19, 2019 – including my own daughter.

Around 7AM, shortly after getting onto westbound I-90 at Snoqualmie Parkway, a vehicle traveling eastbound almost hit my daughter’s car. She called 911, along with multiple other drivers, to report the driver.

Some North Bend residents also reported narrowly missing the wrong way driver near exit 32.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said luckily troopers were able to shut down westbound I-90 at milepost 42, east of North Bend, and stop the driver before there were any collisions.

Trooper Johnson said the driver was elderly and disoriented. He described the incident as scary, especially since it occurred one day after an elderly driver going the wrong direction on 520 in Bellevue caused an accident that took the life of a motorcyclist.
