Police are asking for the  public’s help as they work to track down the parents of the baby.  They say someone must know something about a pregnant woman – who is no longer pregnant, with no baby in sight.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014, King County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call where a witness reported finding a dead baby in a wooded area about a mile from the Snoqualmie Casino.

Police received the call around 2:15PM, and responded to the area of SE North Bend Way between the intersections of SE Meadowbrook Way and 394th PL SE, near the Kimball Creek Bridge.  The newborn was discovered by a passerby, according to King County Sheriffs Office Sergeant Cindi West. Detectives say the baby appeared to have been full-term, with the umbilical cord still attached.

On Thursday, February 13, 2014, the King County Sheriffs Office released a photo of a towel found with the deceased baby.  They are hoping bABY TOWELsomeone will recognize it and call with information that will help with the investigation.

Detectives said the towel is a full-size, faded black bath towel with multiple color square patterns on one side and rectangles on the other side – and is part of the Target brand, Home Collection.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at (206) 296-3311, 24 hours a day, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.

  • Please, if you know a new mom that has been struggling please check in with her. Postpartum depression is real and difficult….I hope that everyone involved can find peace.

    1. THANK YOU for this comment!! I do this with every single friend who has had a new baby! It does not matter if it is the 1st or the 5th baby! I beg for you all to check in with any mom new or seasoned mom!! Do this throughout the pregnancy and well after birth!!

  • I am so saddened by this!!! I was driving by and saw the sheriff’s car this afternoon. My heart just aches for this baby and the mother who thought there was no other way!

  • I feel for this mom and who ever else that is touched by this death. Having a baby is not easy. We don’t know the circumstances. I will be pray-n for the suffering of the infant, mother and family. I f it was a single mom I know what that is like. I had support and it is still very tough. Depression can come to anyone.

  • This poor little blessing has lost its life because of the selfishness of another, they couldve taken that baby anywhere and given up parental rights but instead did something horrific.. Things like this just break my heart.

  • I’m a single mom of two boys. I don’t care how depressed you are, there is no excuse for this. Do people not realize that you can take a newborn to a fire station or hospital and hand then over, no questions asked?? This is despicable. There is no goddamn excuse for leaving a defenseless baby in the woods. Disgraceful.

  • I hope they find the mom and giver therapy. if she has done this its possible she is ill in the head.

  • I am a single teen mom and see no reason for this! I don’t understand why anyone is defending her. She killed an innocent baby because she didn’t want to be a parent instead of doing the right thing and putting the child up for adoption. Anyone who harms or kills a child should have the death penalty enforced on them in my opinion.

  • I would like to know if the baby was full term? My son’s girlfriend is pregnant and was not real happy about it.

  • I think it is sad that a mother could leave a baby at the side of the road to die when they are people out they that can not have baby that would have love to have that baby

  • I am a mental health provider. The woman who left her infant is very ill. It is a sick thing to do? Very much so. But sick people do sick things. She needs hospitalization.

  • *sick as in having a mental health condition so severe it incapacitates healthy judgment and decision making.
Post-partum depression, regular depression: all serious and very debilitating

  • This is just horrific.
There is no excuse. Im a first time mom of a two week old little girl, and it’s a daily/nightly struggle not to lose my mind when my daughter cries. That’s when you lay your baby in a safe place and just walk away for a few minutes!
If you aren’t mentally fit to handle having a baby, don’t get pregnant in the first place. Otherwise, take the poor little one to a hospital or fire dept. and someone more stable who isn’t physically cable of having children will give them the life they deserve!

  • How do we know this mother isn’t Kidnapped or something and needs help. Noone in the right mind should ever think Thats an option

  • Were trying to raise money for a proper burial for this loo Angel. Started an hour ago so far almost 3 hundred. Plus trying to set up a candle light visual. Would love some help or input. Going up to talk to the Snoqualmie police dept tomorrow to get more help.

  • They stated she was near a hospital. You can safe drop a baby at any hospital. No questions asked. It is common knowledge. No matter how depressed or stressed only a heartless person could hurt/leave an innocent baby to die. There are always options. This person made a choice.

Could this be linked to this poor angel baby?
    This is absolutely heart breaking!!!!

  • Many of the comments on this article are short-sighted and very accusatory.

Yes – maybe a mother abandoned her newborn, but what if that’s not the case?

There are so many things people don’t know.

What if the woman is also dead?

What if she had a home birth and the baby died as she was trying to get to a hospital?

What if she was raped? What if she was forced to continue a pregnancy?

Why don’t any of the comments mention that the pregnancy was caused by someone?

  • Where did the balloon come from? I would hope the police would be checking local stores to see if somebody remembers who purchased the balloon.
Come on people – if the woman was kidnapped, do you think the kidnapper would let her take time to wrap her baby in a towel and go to the store to buy a balloon that says “I’m sorry” on it??
    Sick and sad…

    1. Someone left the balloon simply as a tribute to the deceased baby. It’s not connected to the case.
