North Bend Police Officer Recognized for Life Saving Actions

Seattle-King County Public Health recently recognized Snoqualmie/North Bend Police Department Officer Austin Gutwein for saving the life of a North Bend man in January 2021.

Officer Gutwein was first on the scene, responding to a call reporting a collapsed man in a business on E. North Bend Way. Upon arrival, the officer used an AED to restart the man’s heart and continued chest compressions until Eastside Fire & Rescue arrived a short time later.

Snoqualmie Police Chief Perry Phipps said Officer Gutwein is very humble, explaining that he did not even learn about the incident until recently being notified by Seattle-King County Public Health that they wished to recognize Officer Gutwein for his life-saving actions.

Officer Gutwein was able to finally meet the 60-year-old man whose life he helped save this week in North Bend.

Chief Phipps commented, “Officer Gutwein’s training and quick actions helped this man survive until our Eastside Fire & Rescue partners arrived on the scene. We are honored to have him recognized by Seattle-King County Public Health.”
