Property owners in unincorporated King County, east of South Fork Avenue SE and west of the South Fork Snoqualmie River, have asked the City of North Bend to consider annexing their land.
The neighborhood is surrounded on three sides by the City. If approved, the 25.7-acre community located behind the Mountain Valley Shopping Center near SW Mt Si Boulevard will be moved from King County to the City of North Bend’s jurisdiction.
The request came before the North Bend City Council on May 19 after a landowner within the annexation area sought authorization to circulate a formal annexation petition.
After considering the request, the Council approved a resolution accepting the Notice of Intention to Commence Annexation Proceedings, a required step before the petition can be circulated for signatures.
Council discussion is available in the May 19 meeting video, along with Resolution 2184 accepting the annexation Notice of Intent
The City is reviewing the proposal for consistency with North Bend and King County policies and Washington State law, including:
- North Bend’s annexation criteria in the Comprehensive Plan.
- King County countywide planning policies and RCW 35.13.
- Potential effects on services and finances for the City, County and property owners.
Moving forward
- The City may soon receive an annexation petition signed by property owners representing at least 60 percent of the area’s assessed value, as required for the City to consider the proposal.
- Upon receiving signatures, the King County Assessor will verify the petition to confirm that the signatures meet applicable requirements.
- Once the Assessor completes the review, the City will hold a public open house at North Bend City Hall for North Bend and unincorporated King County residents.
- Following verification and the Public Open House, the Council will hold a public hearing and consider whether to approve the annexation, subject to approval of the Boundary Review Board.
