New Month, New Flood event closes some Snoqualmie Valley roads Tuesday morning

It may be a new year, but nothing seems to being changing with Mother Nature’s drenching mood. Since January 6, 2020, approximately 3 inches of rain has fallen in the Snoqualmie Valley. And once again, snow turned to rain in the mountains which put some extra pressure on local rivers and streams.

The Snoqualmie River reached a phase 3 flood event, marking the 3rd time the river has been at this level or higher this fall/winter.

At Snoqualmie Falls, the river is expected to crest late Tuesday morning at around 25,000 cfs. It will crest in Carnation later Tuesday at around 58 feet, considered ‘major flood’ level there.

The National Weather Service still has a Flood Watch issued for Western Washington that runs until 1PM, January 8th..

So, that mean Snoqualmie Falls is roaring again and the ‘usual suspects’ of low-lying roadways wer closed Tuesday morning, January 7th due to water over the roadway.

Snow, though, creeps into the forecast later this week into early next week as temperatures drop.
