MSHS Football Team Upsets 9th Ranked Glacier Peak

You heard it right!   Wildcats came up huge last night with an overtime victory over the 9th ranked Glacier Peak Grizzlies.  Cameron Van Winkle’s extra pointed sealed the victory – 21 – 20.

The defense really stepped it up.  In the first half they forced three turnovers on downs in Glacier Peak territory.  The offense converted two of those turnovers into touchdowns.  Glacier Peak’s quarterback still threw for over 300 yards – proving why he is one of the state’s top quarterbacks.  The Wildcat defense came up with three huge second half interceptions, though.  Each time ending big Glacier Peak drives in Mt Si territory.

Both teams scored in overtime.  The big difference was a missed extra point by Glacier Peak’s kicker.  Wildcats responded with their own touchdown.  A timeout called as an attempt to “ice” kicker Cameron Van Winkle was unsuccessful.  The sophomore converted what might be the biggest kick in his young high school career.

The victory earned MSHS Wildcats the #1 seed in the Northwest District and a berth into the state tournament’s round of 16.  The boys play at home next Friday, 11/12,  against 7th ranked Liberty High School.  They are on their way to the Dome!  Way to go Wildcats!!!
