Mount Si Jazz Band heading to New York for prestigious competition, 4th straight year

For the fourth straight year, the MSHS Jazz I Band, under the direction of Matt Wenmen, will be heading to the Big Apple to compete Essentially Ellington at New York’s famed Lincoln Center.

According to a district announcement, “Mount Si High School was selected from nearly 100 high school jazz bands from across the U.S. and Canada for the prestigious festival. The selection process included a “blind” audition in which the bands submit recordings of their performances of three tunes from the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s library.”

Two other Washington State high school jazz bands will join Mount Si in New York for the May 11th – 13th competition – Edmonds Woodway and Mountlake Terrace.

During the three-day event, student musicians will participate in work sessions, rehearsals and performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The final day, the top three bands perform with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Essentially Ellington is live webcast at www.jazz.org/live.

Per the district announcement, MSHS Jazz Director Matt Wenman:

“These kids have worked tirelessly and have an incredible insatiable drive for excellence! We are so proud of them and proud that they will be representing Mount Si, Snoqualmie Valley, and Washington State at this incredible event May 11-13th!”
Good Luck!
