Mount Si Boys Create Guild to Support Seattle Children’s Cancer Care Unit; Fundraiser this Weekend at Ridge Community Garage Sale

Mom Felicia Stone said it started about a year ago when a group of friends got together, thinking they should be helping a world outside their own.  They wanted to help in a small way that has a great impact. After brainstorming, they came up with a plan and formed the Mount Si Med Squad, and later became an official guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Mount Si Med Squad is the first of its kind – an all teen boy led guild that directly impacts the cancer care unit at Seattle Children’s.

The Med Squad is raising funds to help out boys going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Felicia explained that many of these boys and young adults undergoing treatment are not looking at their future – just hoping to survive the cancer treatments that completely destroy reproductive capabilities of both males and female patients.

A small procedure option for boys and young men hoping to have a family one day is to retrieve and freeze a patient’s sperm for the future. The Mount Si Med Squad’s goal is to help as many patients as possible get this $150 procedure that is NOT covered by insurance. Felicia said many families facing astronomical medical bills choose to forgo the procedure so the Med Squad wants to help.

How are they helping? The Med Squad raised money this summer during one of Seattle Children’s held biggest yearly fundraising auctions held at Chateau St. Michelle Winery, members helping load auction items into cars at the end of the event.

And this weekend they have another fundraiser lined up during the big, community-wide Snoqualmie Ridge Garage sale. The boys and and their families have been collecting garage sale items ( like antiques, sporting equipment, bicycles, clothing, furniture, books) – and will also have a bake sale, a prize wheel (prizes donated by Seattle Children’s) and a raffle for a handmade quilt created by a Med Squad mom called “The Garden Path.”

All profits from the Mount Si Med Squad Garage Sale event will go toward helping  boys and young men facing cancer care treatments at Seattle Children’s Cancer Care Unit.

If you’d like to help out these local boys, head to 6703 Azalea Way SE in Snoqualmie from 9AM-4PM, Friday September 18th and 19th.

For raffle tickets in advance or to find out more about the Med Squad contact Felicia Stone at felicia@pitchpole.net  Tickets are $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5 or 24 for $20! Drawing will be held on Sept 20th and you do not need to be present to win.

Good Luck Mount Si Med Squad!
