Man dies after 200-foot fall near Pratt Lake; hiking partner says dog saved him from going off cliff

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), two hikers were in the back country area of Pratt Lake Sunday evening, June 3, 2018 when one man fell from a cliff and died.

The King County Communications Center received a 911 call around 4:30PM from a hiker who stated the friend he was hiking with had fallen from a cliff about an hour earlier near Pratt Lake, located off I-90 exit 45 west of Snoqualmie Pass.

KCSO stated via press release that the caller had to hike for over an hour to get cell phone reception in order to call for help and wasn’t exactly sure where his friend had fallen from, but said he heard him fall. He tried looking for his missing friend, but said he could only see his backpack at the base of the cliff.

King County Sheriff’s Office and King County Search and Rescue responded to look for the missing hiker. Around midnight, crews located the him at the bottom of a 200 foot cliff, but he had unfortunately died from the fall. The victim was 31-years old and from Shoreline.

The friend told investigators that the only reason he didn’t also fall was because his dog was able to pull him back from the cliff.

As of 1:30PM, June 4th, the victim’s body had yet to be removed due to poor weather that was hampering the required helicopter mission. In the interim, King County Sheriff’s Deputies and Search and Rescue crews remained with the victim.
