Travelers in parts of the Snoqualmie Valley should prepare for multiple road projects that will bring closures, lane restrictions and delays over the coming weeks. The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced work affecting major routes through Fall City, Duvall and Monroe.
State Route 203 between Monroe and Duvall
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation are scheduled to begin work on Monday, July 27. Crews will pave SR 203 from just south of Duvall at Northeast 124th St to the Monroe city limits at Niederle Road (mileposts 12 to 23). Work is expected to finish by Oct. 29, provided the weather cooperates.
The highway was last paved in 2008, exceeding its 15-year life expectancy. This project is essential to maintain the road’s integrity and ensure long-term safety for all travelers.
What to expect
Throughout the project, one lane of SR 203 will be closed. Flaggers and pilot vehicles will alternate northbound and southbound traffic through the remaining open lane.
Most lane reductions will occur at night. However, people should expect two weekends of single-lane closures for bridge repairs within the project limits (at Storm Lake Growers intersection). Weekend closure dates will be announced once they’re finalized.
Crews will not pave a section through the center of Duvall from Northeast Big Rock Road to Northeast Cherry Valley Road (mileposts 14 to 15) or the High Rock Road roundabout (milepost 21) as the condition of those sections was determined to be less deteriorated than the surrounding areas.

Emergency work along State Route 202 in Fall City, which requires a weekend-long closure to repair erosion damage caused by major storms in December 2025 and March 2026, will begin Thursday, July 23.
From 9 p.m. Friday, July 24, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 27, SR 202 just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout will fully close. Signed detours via Interstate 90 will help guide people around the closure. Detours may add 45 minutes or more to travel times through the area, so people are encouraged to plan for longer trips.
Preparation and detour details
Traffic will alternate in the area from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, while contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation set up the work zone and prepare for the first long weekend closure.
Crews will use the weekend-long closure to rebuild the road embankment along the Snoqualmie River at milepost 22, just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout in Fall City.
During the closure crews will place woody material, boulders, streambed gravel mix and stone fragments to restore the roadside embankment to its original grade.
A second full roadway closure is planned from 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10. More information about that closure will be released closer to the date.
Possible effects on river users
Recreational river users may also be affected by this work. Portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers may be closed during in-water construction work to keep people safe while construction vehicles and cranes repair the riverbank. Public access to the rivers and nearby boat launches may also be affected during this work
