Letter | Longtime Councilwoman Endorses Charles Peterson, Grateful for his History, Wisdom

Snoqualmie Residents,

I am writing to encourage the citizens of Snoqualmie to re-elect Charles Peterson to the City Council. Charles has devoted his life to the service of this City and we are very fortunate that he is willing to continue.

I had the pleasure of serving on the Council with Charles for nearly 10 years. He has my utmost respect and support. Charles is an exemplary public official who is intelligent, honest, hard-working and truly devoted to all of the citizens of Snoqualmie. His knowledge of the city, its development, its politics and its history are unmatched on the City Council or in the Administration.

Charles brings all of his knowledge and his research skills to bear on his decisions. He encourages deep and thoughtful discussions that make full Council decisions better. With nearly half of the current Council new in their positions, it is very important to retain Charles’ experience, dedication and historical knowledge to support the new members. I am grateful to Charles for all of the history and wisdom he imparted to me while I was on the Council.

Charles is known all over the region as a very well-respected public official. He is endorsed by FIVE current Snoqualmie City Councilmembers, an incoming Councilmember, several former Snoqualmie City Councilmembers, the Mayor of North Bend and representatives of the North Bend Council, numerous Snoqualmie City Commission and Board members, and many other community leaders and citizens. There is a reason for this broad support: Charles is a man of integrity and an extremely valuable resource to this city and the region.  We are very fortunate to have him.

I urge you to join me in voting to re-elect Charles Peterson to the Snoqualmie City Council.

Maria Henriksen

Snoqualmie City Councilmember 2003-2013

  • Maria, with all the negative talk surrounding this campaign it is refreshing to read your positive words. All Snoqualmie residents should be in debt to Charles’ public service and grateful for his contributions; I am.

However, as his occupation reads in the voters’ pamphlet it may be time for him to RETIRE. Peterson does not have an email address listed in the voters’ pamphlet [all three other Snoqualmie candidates do]. It may be best to keep up with the times and vote for a council member who is more reflective of Snoqualmie’s young demographic where over 1/3 of our population is under the age of 18 yrs. Regardless of the election outcome either way we will have a dedicated public servant in office. -Maddie

  • Maddie,
Thank you for recognizing Councilmember Peterson’s public service. You will easily find his email address on his campaign website at www.charles4council.com. His website is in the Voters’ Pamphlet, on the King County Elections Voters’ Pamphlet website and on his campaign signs. There are several tabs on Charles’ website full of information about his experience, his positions, his service, his endorsements and his contact information. In my experience serving on the City Council with Charles, I found him to be very conscientious about representing all the citizens of the city, including strong support of youth and families. He raised his own children here and has been a strong supporter of the Snoqualmie Valley School District throughout his public service. Charles also supported the building of our Community Center and the partnership with the YMCA, which serves a huge number of children and families as well as empty nesters and singles. Charles is truly dedicated to representing the full spectrum of our community.
I would encourage all voters to read more about Charles at www.charles4council.com .

    1. According to meeting minutes on our City’s website [http://www.ci.snoqualmie.wa.us/CityGovernment/CityCouncil.aspx] Charles Peterson OPPOSED the development of Snoqualmie Ridge when Snoqualmie’s population was less than 1,200 and was almost bankrupt a few decades ago.

I also see Peterson opposed having the library on the ridge and wanted to keep it downtown when it was the least used library in the whole King County Library System [when I last visited the the librarian she told me our library on the ridge is now the most used library in the whole King County Library System]. Yes Charles Peterson has a long distinguish history of public service but he has not always looked out for the interest of the residents on the ridge. As Deana Rudolph said in he Living Snoqualmie FB post maybe you are more focused on “keeping the band together than moving our city forward.”
