Landslide closes one lane of SR 18 near Tiger Mountain summit – until further notice

UPDATE | January 27th, 5PM

WSDOT crews cleared the roadway of debris Monday afternoon and reopened the left lane of eastbound SR 18 west of the Tiger Mountain summit following an earlier landslide.

The right lane will remain closed as a precaution until further notice. Crews will continue to monitor the hillside.

WSDOT says drivers should expect delays through the area.

UPDATE | January 27th, 6:30AM

Early this morning WSDOT closed eastbound SR 18 at Issaquah-Hobart Road because the slide – which first occurred Saturday night – started to encroach on the left lane of the highway.

WSDOT said eastbound SR 18 will remain closed through at least the Monday morning commute as crews worked on cleaning up roadway.

WSDOT geotechnical engineers will do a full evaluation of the area on Monday, January 27th. Westbound SR 18 remains unaffected.

ORIGINAL STORY

Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2020, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) was warning drivers who commute on SR 18 over Tiger Mountain that the right eastbound lane was closed due a landslide.

The small slide occurred west of the Tiger Mountain summit, but did not impact the westbound lanes.

WSDOT stated via social media, “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re keeping the lane closed until our geo-tech engineers can evaluate the site on Monday, Jan. 27.”

Drivers could experience increased Monday morning commute times due to the lane closure. Eastbound SR 18 is only two lanes in this area and typically experiences backups on this approximate 5-mile approach to the I-90 interchange.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
