Is Your Child Mathmatically Powerful? TriMathalon Competition Lets Them Prove It!

Fall is filled with lots of local competition. Fields are filled with soccer and football games.  At Mount Si,  it’s tennis, volleyball, football, soccer and cross-country season.  But what about something different, say a math competition?  Look no further.  It’s time for valley kids to test their math powers!

Back for its second year, Mathnasium will host its annual National TriMathlon this coming weekend, September 29th and 30th, at 150 of its centers across the United States, including the Snoqualmie location.

Mathnasium of Snoqualmie will host its TriMathalon competition in its Center Blvd location this Saturday, September 29th. Registration for for the event is free. open to all students in 3rd – 6th grades attending public, private or home school and  is intended to create excitement about math among area students and schools.

The TriMathlon consists of three challenges:  The Counting Game, which tests student’s ability to count from any number, to any number, by any number;  Magic Squares, where students are awarded points for developing their own math problems; and Mental Math Workout ,which evaluates student’s Number Sense by asking them to solve given problems the ‘smart’ way without pencil and paper. Questions become progressively more difficult for students in higher grade levels.

Students first compete locally at Mathnasium of Snoqualmie.  Along with medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, each participant receives a certificate of achievement and goody bag for their involvement.  Then national TriMathlon winners are selected from the top three scorers in each grade level from all participating  locations.  The 12 national winners receive honors and split $10,000 in cash prizes.

“Mathnasium’s National TriMathlon is an ideal opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of math students in these grade levels,” says Rayan Chepuri and Sumitha Reddy, owners of Mathnasium of Snoqualmie.  “Each challenge tests a different facet of students’ analytical and computational abilities. We hope this event will generate excitement about math education among Snoqualmie and North Bend students and schools.”

Online registration for the TriMathalon is now closed, but anyone still interested (who didn’t get their online registration done) can do it Saturday morning at 9:30AM, prior to the event starting.  Registration closes at 10AM and the competition runs from 10:15-11:15AM.  The awards ceremony is from 12-12:30PM.
