Hiker Falls To Death Near Rattlesnake Lake

According to a tweet from King County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Cindi West, this afternoon, Thursday, August 29, 2013, a hiker fell to his death in the popular Rattlesnake Ridge hiking area near North Bend.

West tweeted that the hiker fell to his death from Lookout Point near Rattlesnake Lake.

She later said theKing County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the incident at 10:56AM. A woman called 911 to report a man had fallen from Rattlesnake Ridge.

When police arrived on the scene, the woman reported that she and the man had hiked to the top of the Ridge.  She was taking his picture near the ledge when he slipped and fell when jumping to a rock.

Crews found the man around noon, about 150 feet below the ledge. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased hiker, age and hometown are not being released until the family has been notified.

Popular Rattlesnake Ledge is about 2,000 feet in elevation, with the Rattlesnake Lake trail ascending about 1,o00 feet from the lake to the ledge.

  • these mountains, trails etc.. are fun and awesome.. while remaining the wild places that they really are. Jumping from rock to rock on a trail like R’snake is a dangerous game.. as we see .. so sad.. very sad. We residents of this beautiful valley continue to be saddened as the seasons pass with these kinds of accidents happening too often.
