Hiker dies on Mt. Teneriffe after 100 foot fall

According to the King County Sheriff’s Department, search and rescue crews responded to the Mount Teneriffe area near North Bend around 11AM, September 9, 2016 for a hiker who reportedly fell about 100 feet.

Eastside Firefighters said the incident occurred on the Mount Teneriffe Falls Trail and crews from Eastside Fire & Rescue, along with Bellevue Medics, responded.

At 12PM, crews were about one mile from the woman’s location and did not yet know what injuries may have been sustained. Unfortunately, KCSO said when crews arrived they discovered the woman had not survived the fall. SAR crews carried the woman off the mountain. KCSO Sgt Cindi West said she was from Bellevue, WA.

The man who witnessed that fall had been hiking near the woman when she fell. West said the woman was near the area of the Teneriffe Falls, at a very high point, when the fatal fall occurred. KOMO News reported the woman was in her 40’s.

Mount Teneriffe is located near Mount Si, with the trailhead a few miles past the popular Mount Si and Little Si trailheads on Mt Si Road. Teneriffe Falls Trail is about 7.5 miles – an ‘out and back’ trail according to www.alltrails.com.
