Highway 18 Closed Early this New Years Day Morning for a Serious One Car Accident

At approximately 5:26 am, a white 1999 Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound SR-18 approaching tiger mountain.

The driver of the vehicle lost control and struck a ditch. The vehicle rolled across all lanes coming to rest on the eastbound left should facing the wrong way

The female driver was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in a lane of traffic. The male passenger was ejected and came to rest under the vehicle.

There were four juveniles in the vehicle. One was in a car seat that was ejected into the westbound lanes. All the subjects were transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The 31-year-old male passenger was transferred in critical condition, and the 39-year-old female driver was transferred with major injuries. The driver had an obvious odor of intoxicants, but a DRE evaluation could not be completed. Both are residents of Federal Way.

Charges are still under investigation.

SR-18 was completely closed for a period, and the eastbound lanes were closed for a couple of hours while WSP Detectives and Troopers were on scene conducting a lengthy investigation. The highway was open to normal traffic by 9:25 am.
