Railway Trains Up and Running for 2013 Season

Did you hear the familiar train whistle yesterday? It means because the Northwest Railway Museum officially resumed full passenger service aboard the vintage railway yesterday, April 6th.

Each Saturday and Sunday through October (except during Day out with Thomas event), the Northwest Railway Museum will offer scenic rides through the Cascade Foothills to the top of Snoqualmie Falls. Round-trip excursions are 75 minutes long. Board at the Snoqualmie Depot, 38625 SE King Street, at 12:01PM, 1:31PM or 3:01PM – or at the North Bend Depot, 205 McClellan Street, 12:26PM or 1:56PM.

New this season: The Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive traveling exhibit, Rails to Sails, which opened Saturday April 6, 2013, at the Snoqualmie Depot. Learn all about how trains and ships worked together to transport valuable products such as timber, coal and wheat from the Pacific Northwest to the rest of the world.

The exhibit will be available at the Depot April thru June, located in the freight room and ladies waiting room. The depot and bookstore are also open to the public 10AM – 5:00PM daily.

What to be a Railway Museum Docent?

Learn how to lead tours in the Train Shed Exhibit Building, on the train and at the Snoqualmie Depot. Docents are trained in historical interpretation and teaching methods, provided with a main theme and key points and given information they can use to create and build fun and interesting tours.

Training consists of a 2-hour info session on April 20, 2013, form 10AM-12PM followed by four 3-4 hour training sessions on Saturdays in May and June. Docents are required to attend all sessions in order to complete the training and qualify as Museum Docents.

New for 2013: Docents will be paired with a Docent Mentor, who will guide trainees towards completion of the training and qualification as a Museum Docent.
