Head-on, Fatal Accident Closes SR 18 Over Tiger Mt. for Hours Friday Morning

On Friday morning, April 19th, 2024, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said an accident blocked both directions of SR 18 near milepost 25.

The accident occurred around 4:40 am and involved a bus, a semi and a car.

According to a WSP accident report, Vehicle One crossed the center line and hit Vehicle Two head-on. A third vehicle, a 2003 blue Ford Expedition, then struck Vehicle Two. All vehicles came to rest in lane one of one.

One of the drivers, a 62-year-old Federal Way man, died at Harborview Hospital. The 41-year-old male driver of another vehicle was transported to Swedish Hospital along with his 34-year-old passenger. A third driver, a 57-year-old from Federal Way, was not injured. Three of the men, including the deceased, were wearing seatbelts.

What caused the driver to cross the center line is unknown. SR 18 was closed for over four hours while troopers investigated the accident. No drugs or alcohol were involved.
