‘Greater Tuna,’ Satirical Look at small Town Life Comes to Valley Center Stage, Boxley’s

Valley Center Stage (VCS) and Boxley’s are excited to present two nights of dinner theater fun, combining Boxley’s great food and VCS’s current show, Greater Tuna.

Community members can enjoy the comfortable dining and theater experience on Friday and Saturday, February 19th and 20th.  Seating for dinner begins at 6:30PM, with the show starting at 7:30PM.

Greater Tuna is the funny comedy about Texas’ third smallest town, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy greater tunaCline never dies. The eclectic band of citizens that make up this town are portrayed by only two performers. In this satire on rural America life, local actor, René Schuchter, and new-to-Valley Center Stage actor, Michael Murdock, depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna — men, women, children and animals.

Greater Tuna has been a favorite production of theaters across the country for years – and was even broadcast on national TV.  Valley Center Stages says “if you enjoy seeing quirky characters – and who doesn’t – then come visit, pull up a chair, and set a spell in Greater Tuna.  Y’all will be glad you did!”

The play was originally produced in 1981 in Austin, Texas, by its authors, Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, and starred the writers as all twenty characters, with Howard directing.  One year after its premier, Greater Tuna opened Off-Broadway, ran for over a year and then toured nationwide and overseas for over thirty years – making it one of the most produced plays in American theater history.
