Friday Morning Accident near SR 18 / I-90 Interchange Takes Life over Weekend

Most Snoqualmie Valley residents know, the SR 18 / I-90 interchange is busy no matter what time of the day.  Semi trucks often tip making the turn onto SR 18 from westbound I-90 and accidents are common heading over Tiger Mountain.

Another tragic accident happened just as the Friday morning commute out of the Snoqualmie Valley was ramping up on May 16, 2014. Within minutes of the 7:10AM collision, Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers were on the scene, closing SR 18 and helping direct traffic.

According to the Washington State Patrol, two motorcycles were traveling westbound on SR 18, just west of I-90, when one of the motorcycles slowed down for traffic. The other motorcycle then struck the slowing motorcycle and came to rest in the oncoming, eastbound lanes of SR 18.

By 8AM all lanes of SR 18 were closed as emergency crews worked to assist the injured motorcyclist. The 48-year old male was transported to Harborview Medical Center. His Harley Davidson was totaled in the accident. The other 64-year old motorcyclist was uninjured. All lanes of SR 18 were reopened by 9:15AM.

Sadly, the Washington State Patrol reported the injured man died of his injuries over the weekend. The accident is currently under investigation, but WSP stated that drugs and alcohol were not involved.
