Flooding Update: Cedar River Watershed Education Center re-opens, Rattlesnake Lake Recreation area remains closed

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) announced on Thursday, February 13, 2020 that the Cedar River Watershed Education Center in North Bend had reopened after being closed by flooding a week ago. SPU operates the watershed and Rattlesnake Lake recreation area.

Although the Education Center has reopened, SPU said the Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area – including the parking lot, the park, and Rattlesnake Ledge Trail – remained closed “until further notice” due to flooding.

Residents of the nearby Wilderness Rim neighborhood reported receiving 16 inches of rain in a four day period during last week’s flood event.

The path leading to Rattlesnake Ledge Trailhead was the first to flood, happening on February 5th and led to a warning from SPU to hikers to “use caution as wading will be required to access the trail.” Then on February 6th, SPU closed Rattlesnake Trail. On February 7th the rest of the recreation area and the watershed were closed by flood waters.

According to Cedar River Watershed Education Center, the closed areas will reopen once flood waters have receded enough to do so.

An announcement will be made on the Watershed Facebook page when that occurs.
