First Significant Snow Storm of Season Hits Snoqualmie Pass, Enough to Open Slopes?

Just as weather forecasters predicted, cold air and stormy conditions are creeping into the area this afternoon, November 15, 2013, bringing the first significant snow of the season to Snoqualmie Pass.

Don’t get too excited skiers and snowboarders.  The Summit at Snoqualmie says it probably won’t be enough to open the slopes just yet.  They did report, though, that it’s snowing fairly hard and every little bit helps get another ski season underway.  Snow levels are forecast to remain low through the weekend, keeping the possibility adding more snow to Summit’s base.

The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning posted for the Cascades until 6AM, November 16th, saying 12-18 inches could fall in the mountain passes by tomorrow morning.  Up to an inch of snow per hour is possible from this afternoon though early Saturday. NOAA says traveling through the mountains will be “challenging.”

Down in the Snoqualmie Valley, it’s just plain old rain – cold (temps are in the upper 30’s) rain, along with breezy conditions.

Be careful and take it slow on the roads!
