Fire Blotter | false brush fire report; bonfire & grass fire reports; strange odor

Here are a few calls the Snoqualmie Fire Department responded to this past week.

September 11th
At 2:20 pm Snoqualmie Firefighters responded with other units for a reported brush fire near Snoqualmie Pkwy and Railroad Ave SE. The caller reported seeing 10ft flame lengths near the Christmas Tree
Farm.

Firefighters fielded a phone call from the reporting party (known to the FD for making false calls) advising she doesn’t know where the smoke is coming from. Department canceled incoming resources after confirming there was no fire and contacting the caller. Firefighters confirmed the smoke was from incoming weather patterns and wildfires burning throughout the region. The caller was given a lesson in fire safety and what to watch for.

Later at 4:24 pm Snoqualmie Firefighters dispatched to a fire alarm called in by the alarm company at the Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Course. On arrival unit found no signs of fire from the exterior and the building evacuated. Firefighters investigated and found that a door had been left open allowing
passing wildfire smoke into the building, setting off the smoke detector. System was reset.

At 7:51 pm Snoqualmie Firefighters responded to a report of a possible brush fire. The caller advised she could see what she thought was an orange glow in the trees and thought there was a fire but couldn’t be sure due to the smoke in the air from the wildfires. The crew arrived to find no signs of fire in the area. When meeting up with the caller it was noted that the glow she was seeing was from a street light being filtered through the trees and
wildfire smoke and there was no sign of fire. Firefighters thanked her for calling and cleared the scene.

Then at 9:32 pm, Snoqualmie Firefighters E155 responded to a report of a bonfire being attended at a residential address. King County is in a stage 2 burn restriction that does not allow for recreational burning. Firefighters arrived at a residence where crews have been before, being met by the resident who stated he was just having a warming fire under the stars with his girlfriend. The resident was burning old fence boards and cardboard along with some firewood. He was advised of the burning restrictions and potential penalty and told to put the fire out. The resident was agreeable and promptly extinguished the fire.

September 12th
At 5:20 pm Snoqualmie Firefighters dispatched to a grass fire along Hwy 18. Dispatch updated en route to state there were two fires and bystanders were attempting to extinguish. On arrival, WSP was on scene with two extinguished fires. Firefighters applied additional water to cool down the
burned areas.

September 14th
At 12:17 am Snoqualmie Firefighters dispatched to a burn complaint, caller advised that a neighbor was burning in the backyard and believed it to be a hazard. Firefighters arrived to find a small fire in a purpose-built fire pit with firewood and some construction debris. The homeowner was advised of the burning restrictions due to fire danger and asked to extinguish. The homeowner complied.

At 12:30am Snoqualmie Firefighters responded to a single-vehicle accident with airbag deployment at the offramp to exit 27 onto Winery Road. Firefighters arrived first with the police department to find the vehicle head-on into an embankment with a single occupant. E255 established command and started triage. The patient was placed on a backboard and transported to Overlake Medical Center, and the scene turned over to Washington State Patrol.

September 15th
At 7:17 am Snoqualmie Firefighters received a call for odor in a home. On arrival personnel could not smell anything abnormal and nothing indicating on the gas monitor. Firefighters requested homeowner to turn on the ac and furnace and an odd smell occurred. The gas monitor still showed
negative, so firefighters advised the homeowner to shut down ac and furnace and call a tech for service.

September 16th
At 2:07 pm Snoqualmie Firefighters dispatched to a fire alarm at the old IGA. The crew arrived to find ongoing demolition and remodel in progress. Construction workers were cleaning up drywall inside the
structure when they set off the alarm system. The system was reset and contractors advised to place the system in test mode prior to continuing to remodel.

[In addition to the above calls, Snoqualmie EMTs responded to 16 medical aid incidents bringing the total number of calls to 731 for 2020.]
