According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), on Monday, June 27th, at 8:09 PM, a fatality crash closed SR-18 for approximately 5 hours.
A semi-truck driven by a 49-year-old male driver from Edgewood, Washington, was disabled on westbound SR-18 just east of the Tiger Mountain Summit, blocking lane one.
The semi-driver was out of the truck, working on it with reflective triangles and flashers.
A Ford Escape was traveling westbound on SR-18 driven by a 31-year-old male from Enumclaw with a 27-year-old Maple Valley female passenger colliding with “most of the intrusions to the passenger side.”
The woman was deceased at the scene, and the man was taken to Overlake Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver was uninjured. Both occupants of the car were wearing seatbelts.
The male driver faces possible charges of DUI and vehicular homicide. The roadway was re-opened at 1:12 AM.

HWY 18 is a death trap, drunk or not…
Many people actively follow any news regarding accidents on HWY 18 because they’ve lost a loved-one on that stretch of highway. If you feel the need to make a bad situation worse, by making useless comments – GFYS.
And guns kill people, all by themselves- it’s got nothing to do with the morons pulling the triggers. I’ve been driving that road for fifty years, and until you all decided Washington was the promised land it was always safe enough.
