Fall City schools put on brief lockdown for police pursuit of car theft suspects

Two Snoqualmie Valley schools went into a brief lockdown Monday afternoon, January 8, 2018 when King County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a search in the downtown Fall City area for suspects who had reportedly stolen a car.

The lockdown began around 12:50PM and ended around 1:40PM. According to SVSD, the King County Sheriff’s Office contacted Fall City ES and Chief Kanim Middle School and recommended they go into lockdown as a precautionary measure while deputies pursued the suspects who ran from the stolen car.

KCSO stressed via social media that the canine units, helicopter and multiple police vehicles utilized in the search were NOT related to the manhunt for a suspect wanted in the shooting death of a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy earlier in the day.

According to a KCSO tweet, they did not believe SVSD students were in danger, but stated it was easier to conduct the search with students inside buildings.

Schools resumed normal operations and dismissed at the usual times. District officials reported that the two individuals police were pursuing had  left the area.

The King County Sheriff’s Office used Twitter to stress again that the search was not related to the Pierce County incident and they did not believe anyone in the Fall City area was in danger.
