Extra Summer Traffic Possible Through Snoqualmie Neighborhoods as Lake Alice Access Road Temporarily Opens

Local residents may want to be prepared for some extra traffic through Snoqualmie Ridge this summer as King County works to replace a culvert in danger of collapsing underneath Lake Alice Road in Fall City.

Due to the temporary closing of Lake Alice Road for theses road repairs, the small access road between Lake Alice Road and SE Sorenson St in the Heights neighborhood of Snoqualmie Ridge is open [temporarily] starting Monday, June 22, 2015  at 7AM.

The access road will close on or before August 28th when the King County road project is complete. Lake Alice Road is the sole access for approximately 200 homes in the Lake Alice neighborhood and borders the northwest edge of Snoqualmie Ridge.

King County says the temporary closure of Lake Alice Road is critical, as a 48 inch diameter culvert is severely deformed 35 feet below the surface and a portion of the bottom of the pipe has rusted through. King County Road Division says complete collapse of the culvert or its plugging appears imminent, which would make this only neighborhood road impassable.

DETOUR MAP and TRAFFIC MONITORING

The City of Snoqualmie Public Works Department will monitor the project within the Snoqualmie Ridge neighborhoods in collaboration with King County, which will manage the project in the Lake Alice neighborhood. The Snoqualmie Police Department stated that “speed trailers and enforcement deployed accordingly.”

The detour route is the same as used in the first phase of the project in 2013. It starts at Lake Alice Road, goes through the access road, onto SE Sorenson St, left onto SE Carmichael St, and then right onto Douglas Ave SE to reach Snoqualmie Parkway.

The detour route map is posted on the King County website.  More information on the Culvert Replacement project HERE.

  • Thank you for the article, Danna. Did you mean “Closes” vs “Opens” in the title “Extra Summer Traffic Possible Through Snoqualmie Neighborhoods as Lake Alice Access Road Temporarily Opens”?

    1. Sorry to be confusing, but actually did mean ‘opens’ as it refers to the small access road between Lake Alice and Snoqualmie Ridge – but do see where it is a bit confusing:)

  • While walking the dog this weekend we checked out the access road. What a crazy place. While most people obeyed the signs at the round-about, we saw quite a few cars going over 30 mph (as the PD trailer speedometer displayed) and going the wrong way in the round-about. We even saw two cars racing in the round-about with one going the right way and the other going to the left. This is an accident waiting to happen!
