In the Snoqualmie Valley, many families face the harsh realities of poverty, struggling to meet basic needs as living costs rise faster than incomes.
To foster understanding and empathy, Reclaim, in collaboration with the WSU Metropolitan Center for Applied Research and Extension, is hosting a Poverty Immersion Experience on May 31st, 2025.
This interactive workshop, scheduled from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 400 SE Orchard Dr, in North Bend, will allow participants to imagine themselves in the shoes of those living with limited resources.
Attendees will assume the identities of individuals facing economic challenges, navigating daily tasks such as employment and family care with constrained means. This simulation highlights the tough decisions and systemic obstacles that are part of daily life for many.
The event begins with doors opening at 2:45 PM, followed by the immersive workshop from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A community debrief will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, providing an opportunity for reflection and discussion on actionable steps to effect positive change in our community.
This experience is designed to challenge stereotypes and change attitudes about people facing poverty, fostering a collective drive toward meaningful solutions.
