Expect Congestion Near the I-90/SR-18 Interchange Next Week

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is getting ready for major improvements to the I-90/SR-18 interchange beginning this spring.

They’re getting some preliminary sign placement and prep work done this coming week. If your travels take you through the I-90/SR 18 interchange, plan extra time for your trips next week.

SR-18

The westbound climbing lane will be closed two miles south of the interchange from 8 am to 3 pm each day from Monday, January 30, to Saturday, February 4.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of that same week, there will also be short-term shoulder closures near the interchange from 7 am to 3 pm.

From Monday, January 30, to Wednesday, February 1, there will be short-duration lane closures in both directions just west of the interchange.

Construction for the new diverging diamond interchange really ramps up this spring. Some of the work happening this year includes building drainage systems, installing underground wiring for new traffic lights and tearing down the old weigh station off the westbound I-90 on-ramp.

When complete, the project will improve traffic flow and safety, reducing commute times for travelers who use this busy corridor. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
