Helicopters Over Valley Responding to Injured Hiker Near North Bend

** Update 7/11/13, 8:15PM: The injured hiker is off the mountain safely and taken to hospital. There are initial indications of a spinal injury. Good work was performed by rescuers.  King County Search and Rescue volunteers who responded were vital to the rescue**

If you are hearing helicopters tonight, July 11, 2013, they are for an injured hiker near North Bend.

This just in from the King County Sheriff’s Office:

“The Sheriff’s Office and Eastside Fire are working a rescue of an injured hiker on the Lil Si trail outside of North Bend. A 23 year old female fell about 20 feet while

rock climbing, injuring her lower leg and head. Extent of the injuries are unknown but the rescuers are treating the rescue as an ALS rescue, Advanced Life Support, in case the injuries are serious.

The hiker is about ½ way up the trail, unknown if he is alone or with others. The rescue is expected to take an hour or so and they have the trailhead of Lil Si closed off.”
