Earth Day Celebrates Student Artists, April 22nd at City Hall

Want a fun, local way to celebrate Earth Day?  Come see how local student artists envision of what recycling means to them.

Recycling is a simple, environmental activity that kids can do every day to make a difference. Waste Management and the City of Snoqualmie hosted their first annual Snoqualmie Student Art Contest to empower students to take small daily actions that together have a large impact.

Forty-three 3rd and 4th grade students from Snoqualmie Elementary and Cascade View Elementary depicted what recycling means to them – everything from picking up litter – to helping their family take out the recycle – to reusing food containers and tires.

Together, a judging panel, including Mayor Larson, Snoqualmie Public Works and Parks Director, Dan Marcinko, Danna McCall of Living Snoqualmie (yes, me) and Jeff Waters of the Snoqualmie Art Commission, selected 18 winners whose artwork will be featured in Waste Management’s annual recycling guidebook mailer.

Come to Snoqualmie City Hall to be inspired by all of the students’ artwork, where Earth Day will officially commemorate the contest and the inspiring artwork on Wednesday, April 22 from 4PM – 7PM, 38624 SE River Street.

The event activities begin at 4PM. The formal program kicks off at 6PM, with Mayor Larson announcing the winners. Light refreshments will also be provided, as well as and fun environmental education activities, including:

  • Learn how to make earth-friendly pots out of newspaper.
  • Plant a tree to take home with you
  • Find ways to save energy at home, and also save money.
  • Sign up to learn about solar power.
  • Learn how to support the Snoqualmie River.
