National touring comedian Don Friesen is returning to the Seattle area, where he filmed his latest self-financed comedy special, Break a Leg, so named because of the freak injury he suffered during rehearsal just three hours before the taping.
After years of planning and preparation, everything was finally in place for the taping, until Friesen tore his Achilles during rehearsal while running up a 13-foot warped wall built for the special’s surprise finale. Following a frantic trip to Urgent Care, where doctors diagnosed a ruptured Achilles tendon and placed his foot in a temporary cast, Friesen faced a decision: postpone the production or somehow take the stage.
He chose the stage.
Performing on a freshly torn Achilles tendon, Friesen completed the taping before undergoing reconstructive surgery and beginning months of rehabilitation.
Now fully recovered, Friesen returns to the Pacific Northwest for a special one-night performance at the historic North Bend Theatre on Saturday, September 5, giving local audiences an opportunity to see the comedian whose determination transformed an extraordinary setback into an unforgettable performance.
A veteran of three decades in stand-up comedy, Friesen’s comedy specials have been featured on Showtime, Netflix, Hulu and Dry Bar Comedy, and he can be heard daily on SiriusXM comedy.
