The Snoqualmie Valley School District announced Thursday, April 5, 2018 that it had picked the new principal who will help bring Snoqualmie Middle School back online after a six-year run as a freshman campus.

The district named Doug Burnham as principal of Snoqualmie Middle School.  He will join the Snoqualmie Valley School District in July to begin planning for the re-opening of Snoqualmie Middle School in fall 2019.

Burnham is currently the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director for the Tahoma School District, and an associate principal at Tahoma High School.

According to the district announcement:

“Burnham’s career in education spans 20 years with administrative positions at Tahoma, Auburn and Enumclaw school districts for the past 8 years. Most recently, he has been the CTE director for Tahoma School District and Tahoma High School associate principal for five years—during which he helped facilitate significant changes related to transitioning staff and students to a new scheduling model and opening a new school. Burnham also has middle school teaching experience in the subject areas of special education, math, science, and digital exploration at schools in Issaquah and Kent. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, as well as his principal certification, from Central Washington University.”

Snoqualmie Middle School closed in June 2013 when it was annexed to become a stand-alone 9th grade campus for Mount Si High School to help deal with increasing high school enrollment. SMS students then transitioned to Chief Kanim and Twin Falls Middle Schools.

The district stated that Burnham’s role for the 2018-19 school year will focus on planning and preparation to help the District transition from two to three middle schools by the fall of 2019. Snoqualmie Middle School will then reopen under his leadership as head principal.

The majority of the new Mount Si High School building is also scheduled to open in fall 2019. The new comprehensive high school will have capacity for 2,300 students and the space to serve all 9th-12th graders.

Even though Burnham’s position doesn’t officially begin July 1st, the district said he will be involved in Middle School Visioning Committee work this spring.

Congratulations!
