Commuter Alert: Dense Fog Weather Advisory Might Slow Traffic

Screen Shot 2013-01-18 at 6.51.14 AMJust when you think you’ve seen every type of weather advisory, watch or warning from the National Weather Service, a new one sneaks up on you.

If you are heading out of the Snoqualmie Valley, or out of your higher elevation neighborhood this morning, dense fog is something to pay attention to, as it might affect local traffic and your morning commute.

A Dense Fog Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service last night.  According to the warning, “dense fog and some localized freezing fog will reduce visibility to less the a half mile over much of the Western Washington interior lowlands.”  The advisory lasts through 12PM today, January 18th.

Visibility along the I-5 corridor is running from zero to a half mile at 6:45AM.

There is also an Air Stagnation advisory in effect that runs through early next week.  Light winds and a low-level temperature inversion are trapping pollutants near the surface.

Burn bans that were issued earlier in the week have been lifted in King County.
