Green Snoqualmie Day 2026 will celebrate the beginning of the fall planting season with a community event focused on resilience and stewardship.

This year’s effort will continue the planting of Snoqualmie’s Climate Change Adaptation Demonstration Forest.
Through the Green Snoqualmie Partnership, an initiative to restore and improve the health of Snoqualmie’s forested parks and natural areas, volunteers and staff have removed tens of thousands of square feet of invasive weeds and planted thousands of native plants.
Participants will plant trees and shrubs designed to help the urban forest adapt to a changing climate through resistance, resilience and transition strategies that will benefit the community now and into the future.
The Climate Change Adaptation Demonstration Forest is an initiative to reforest a strip of land that previously contained a row of homes damaged by flooding. For the past two years, volunteers have planted trees and shrubs using the strategy of assisted migration: drought-adapted shore pines from Washington’s cliffs and coasts, Douglas-firs from Oregon, creeping Oregon-grape from eastern Washington and other regionally adapted species. These, combined with Snoqualmie’s naturally adapted plants, will help Snoqualmie’s urban forest adapt to a changing climate.
This year, Green Snoqualmie is piloting seed-based restoration, which involves broadcasting native grass and wildflower seeds that build soil, shade tree saplings and provide pollinator habitat. Using cutting-edge resistance, resilience and transition strategies, the partnership aims to keep Snoqualmie’s forests healthy today and for generations to come.
Volunteers should come prepared for outdoor work in rain or shine, wearing clothes that can get dirty, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate layers. Tools and gloves will be supplied, along with coffee, water and a midmorning snack. Additionally, a pizza lunch will be provided. To help reduce waste, attendees are encouraged to bring their own refillable mugs or water bottles.
