City to Hold two Town Halls on November public safety ballot measure; Mayor, Chiefs to present

The City of Snoqualmie has placed a Public Safety Levy measure – Proposition 1 – on the November general election ballot. If approved, this property tax levy lid lift will fund a public safety plan, which the city says includes hiring an estimated two

policeintroadditional police officers and an estimated one additional firefighter to maintain appropriate service levels and response times for police, fire, and emergency services.

Community members are invited to attend one of two town hall meetings to learn more about how the levy would make it possible to maintain high standards of public safety service levels; statistics about the city’s growth over the past fifteen years and its impact on police, fire, and emergency services; and financial considerations related to the operations levy.

Each town hall meeting will have the same presentation from Mayor Matt Larson, Fire Chief Mark Correira, and Interim Police Chief Jim Schaffer.

If approved, the proposition would authorize the City of Snoqualmie to increase its regular property tax rate by up to $0.23/$1,000 – to a maximum rate of $2.78/$1,000 of assessed valuation.

For the owner of the average $530,000 Snoqualmie home, the cost would be about $120 per year or $10 per month. For a $265,000 Snoqualmie home, the cost would be about $60 per year or $5 per month.
