Carnation church keeps important annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast going, taking it virtual

Every year, Tolt Congregational United Church of Christ in Carnation holds its 4th of July Pancake Breakfast, with proceeds benefiting the church’s Good Neighbor Fund (GNF).

The breakfast fundraiser dates back to the mid-80s and continues to grow each year. In a normal year, it is a huge part of the Carnation 4th of July festivities – and also a big breakfast tradition for many Valley families.

Unfortunately, this year the Pancake Breakfast won’t happen as usual, due to coronavirus social-distancing guidelines.

But organizers say in these uncertain times, there is an even greater need for the Good Neighbor Fund (GNF) that is funded by that pancake breakfast – so they decided to take the fundraiser virtual, setting up Facebook Page and GoFundMe.

The Virtual Pancake Breakfast happens on the Facebook page on Saturday July 4th at 9AM. Donations to the virtual fundraiser and the GNF can be made on the GoFundMe page. (Both links above)

Tolt UCC’s Good Neighbor Fund exists to provide community members assistance with rent, bills, groceries and other essential items. Throughout the pandemic, the church has been restocking and organizing a community food pantry, organizing a community food bank, as well as arranging a Sunday of Service and continuing to hold weekly worship services over Zoom.

Virtual Pancake Breakfast organizer Julia Crumb commented, “Although we can’t meet in person, we are striving to connect with and support our community.”

So far the GoFundMe has raised over $3,000 dollar for the Good Neighbor Fund. The goal is to surpass the $5,000 raised at last year’s event.

Good Luck, Tolt UCC!
