Business Comings: Volition Brewing brings new life to downtown North Bend; Chinook Lumber up and running in brand new building

Volition Brewing Open for Business

It took Volition Brewing about a year – and a lot of hard work – to transform the interior of the old Glazier building in the heart of downtown North Bend. This week the new brewing business got to show off the space, officially opening for business.

When asked what was the biggest challenge with the project, Owner Lucas Haines said the ‘entire building,’ which had sat vacant for about 30 years.

Haines commented, “We took the space down to dirt and walls.”

Crews removed the old rotten hardwood floors, cleaned and sealed the new ceiling and installed all new utilities including, sewer, water, electrical and HVAC systems.

Essentially they gutted the interior and constructed a new, modern building inside the 80-year old shell. But the did leave hints of the building’s past.

Haines said, “One of the coolest things – we were able to salvage some of the 80-year old timbers from the floor and prominently place them in the tap room. The bar top, chair rail, and window sill are all made from reclaimed wood.”

The Volition crew is excited to meet customers and, of course, talk about beer. And now that they’re officially open, they said they can focus on getting to know everyone and sharing their craft beer.

Volition Brewing opened with three beers on tap. Haines said so far the most popular has been the Interstellar Mage IPA. He added, “The response has been great and we can’t wait to share more with our tap room guests.”

Volition is open Monday – Thursday from 3PM – 8PM; Friday from 3PM – 9PM; Saturday, 12PM – 9PM and Sunday, 12PM – 8PM.

You can keep up with Volition on their Facebook page or website.
