Sno-King Ice Arena’s new Snoqualmie facility is officially OPEN, and WOW is it sensational. I had the privilege of touring the facility recently, and I have to say this is nothing like the ice arenas of my childhood.
I grew up on the Eastside in the ’70s, and 80’s when ice skating was in vaguely rundown buildings situated in the oddest places, like Crossroads Mall. Since the PNW is frequently a wet, windy place to live, all indoor activities were highly prized and sorely missed when they were gone.
Walking into the giant lobby of the 72,500 square feet twin-sheet ice arena in Snoqualmie Ridge’s Business Park brought back memories of all the fun I had as a child ice skating. This facility is home to TWO NHL size ice sheets with a mezzanine with seating and viewing areas, twelve locker rooms, a dry land training gym and several dedicated spaces designed for birthday parties and group events. I mean, we had some fun birthday parties at my childhood ice rink, but this place will likely host some REALLY epic parties and fun.
Sno-King Ice Sports provides the opportunity for youth of all ages and adults to participate in learn-to-skate and figure skating programs, as well as competitive hockey leagues and for the general public to skate and connect. The new facility will also be a prime location for future tournaments, competitions, and camps, helping to serve as an anchor to support the many hotels, restaurants, and activities nearby. Over 30,000 people are expected to visit the new facility each year. The Snoqualmie location is Sno-King’s third and largest facility, adding to its Renton and Kirkland locations. The expansion also meets a growing demand and will be critical for developing youth and adult hockey and figure skating programs, adding over 6,500 hours of ice time to serve thousands on the Eastside for years to come.
On September 16th, the doors opened to registrants of its Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs, following strict state-regulated COVID-19 safety guidelines. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony included Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson, Senator Mark Mullet, and the Sno-Valley Chamber of Commerce to commemorate the facility’s opening.
The arena’s construction was made possible by the efforts of the partnership with the City of Snoqualmie and Jeff Razwick and family. The Razwick family owns the facility land and erected the building’s shell. Sno-King’s design team completed construction work on the interior.
Sno-King Snoqualmie plans to host a Grand Opening drive-thru for the community on October 18th via online signup and timed ticketing. The Drive-thru event will be set up with various stations to learn more about our programs and facility, including live demonstrations, special guests, prizing and giveaways.
