Another Windy Weekend Possible for the Snoqualmie Valley

[Guest Post by North Bend resident Mark Davis]

If you have any inflatable Christmas decorations outside, you may want to secure them better or remove them today. We have a Wind Advisory in effect from 7 pm Friday to 10 am Saturday.

Winds will be 20 to 35mph, with gusts possible to 50mph. The gusts peak should happen in the early morning hours of Saturday. Be prepared for possible power outages.

The map below shows the wind gusts at 5 am Saturday. The white flag on the Map Is North Bend.

Another issue we have with this storm is the snow In the mountains. By Sunday afternoon Snoqualmie Pass could have 3 feet of new snow.

Snoqualmie Pass has closed in both directions in the last couple of days multiple times. Plan accordingly If you must travel over the passes and check the road conditions before leaving.

The above map shows the accumulated snowfall amounts over the mountains on Sunday at 2 pm.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, a prepared mountain pass driver has:

  • Full gas tank
  • Chains (and knows how to use them)
  • Extra warm clothes
  • Snacks/drinks
  • Phone charger
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Flares
  • First aid kit/medication
  • Ice scraper
  • Water and snacks

Be safe!
