High Wind Warning issued, 50-60mph Damaging winds possible

KOMO News weather producer Scott Sistek said Saturday morning via Twitter that a powerful incoming windstorm probably wouldn’t be at historical levels, but does have the potential to produce widespread power outages – and advised folks to prepare just in case.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a High Wind Warning for the storm that is expected to hit Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, March 13, 2016.

NWS is calling for the strongest peak wind speeds to range from 30-45mph for the Puget Sound region – and to hit late Sunday afternoon to evening, with wind gusts of 50-60mph.

Note: The exact track of the storm could still change slightly which would alter the wind strength. In the east King County Foothills, winds may not be quite as strong because peak winds are predicted to be southerly and it is usually southeast/east wind events that produce the most damage in the Snoqualmie Valley

It will be wet with this storm, too, with a half to one inch of rain possible. A winter storm watch is also in place for the Cascades with 1-2 feet of snow possible from Sunday into Monday.

You can monitor current weather conditions in the Snoqualmie Valley at www.northbendweather.com. It’s a great local site for tracking temperatures and wind gusts.

When does spring start??
